maps2go is an alternative to the iPhone's "Maps" application for the iPhone OS. If you want access to maps without a good Internet connection (e.g. avoiding enormous roaming fees when visiting other countries) maps2go is the right application for you.
maps2go is the ideal companion for trips to foreign cities! No roaming fees apply for using maps and search because an internet connection is only needed once to download your city map.

Map Markers
Custom markers can be placed on the map, e.g. during trip preparation. A phone shake lets you remove the last or all markers on a map.

Configurable Map Detail
maps2go allows you to change the amount of detail shown on the map. For example, you might (hopefully) not need to see every hospital and pharmacy within the city. Simply turn them off and get your own clean, tailored map display!

Tips & Tricks
Intelligent caching makes map rendering faster the longer you use a map!
Technical background: Map data either already comes with the application (free version) or is downloaded to the phone in one go during trip preparation. It contains all necessary data to render the map and search street and place names. Thanks to the compact data format used, a typical major city only occupies 3-8 MB of phone memory - about the size of 1-2 iTunes songs! Map detail can be adjusted by the user, since actual rendering happens on the device.
Map Data
Map data is provided by the OpenStreetMap project. It works like a wiki where anybody can contribute improvements. Those improvements will also improve maps2go. So feel free to use the "Edit" function on the OpenStreetMap site to improve the map!
